Itinerary

DAY 1:

CUSCO- SANTA MARIA: BIKING AND RAFTING

We’ll begin our 4-day Inca Jungle Trek adventure early at 5:00 am. Transportation will pick us up between 5:00 and 5:30 am (exact time to be confirmed). After approximately 3 hours of travel, we’ll reach the high mountain pass of Malaga (4,350 meters) around 11:00 am. From there, we’ll embark on an exhilarating downhill mountain biking descent lasting about 3 hours. We’ll pass through charming villages, orchards, rivers, and streams, arriving in the town of Huamanmarca around 1:30 pm.

Next, we’ll take a 30-minute ride in our private van to the town of Santa Maria. Upon arrival, we’ll dive into an exciting 2-hour rafting adventure, navigating class III and IV rapids. A professional safety kayaker will accompany us to ensure safety throughout the journey until we disembark from the river.

  • Meals: Lunch, Dinner
  • Maximum Altitude: 4,350 meters / 14,271 feet
  • Minimum Altitude: 1,250 meters / 4,101 feet
  • Distance: Approximately 21 km
  • Biking Time: 3 to 4 hours
  • Accommodation: Santa Maria – Homestay

After a hearty breakfast, we’ll start the first day of our trek to Santa Teresa at 6:00 am. Our initial hike involves a 2-hour ascent with several stops to explore the region’s diverse flora and fauna.

One notable stop will be at a local family’s home, where we’ll take a 20-minute break, replenish our water supply, and enjoy some fresh regional tropical fruits. We’ll then continue on a segment of the Inca Trail that once connected Machu Picchu to the city of Vilcabamba. Here, our guide will share insights into Incan history and their communication systems. This point also offers stunning views of the Huancarccasa Canyon.

Following this, we’ll descend to the charming town of Quellomayo for lunch and some relaxation in nearby hammocks. Afterward, we’ll trek for an additional two hours to the Cocalmayo thermal baths, where you’ll have plenty of time to relax in the natural hot springs.

  • Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
  • Maximum Altitude: 1,657 meters / 5,436 feet
  • Minimum Altitude: 1,250 meters / 4,101 feet
  • Distance: Approximately 12 km
  • Accommodation: Santa Teresa – Homestay

After breakfast in Santa Teresa, we’ll take a 20-minute walk from our hotel to the natural area for our zip-lining adventure. This experience features 12 platforms and 5 cables, each suspended up to 250 meters above the valley. The cables, made of galvanized stainless steel, range from 500 to 1,000 meters in length. The canopy tour typically lasts about an hour and a half.

Following the zip-lining, we’ll be transported to the Hydroelectric Station. Lunch will be provided en route, giving us the chance to view several waterfalls and appreciate the grandeur of nearby peaks, including Machu Picchu and Huayna Picchu. We’ll also have the opportunity to see an ancient Incan sundial and other historical structures.

After lunch, we’ll embark on a 3-hour hike along the railway tracks leading to Aguas Calientes.

  • Maximum Altitude: 2,050 meters / 6,561 feet
  • Minimum Altitude: 1,500 meters / 4,921 feet
  • Distance: Approximately 16 km

Our final day starts early. We’ll wake up around 5:00 am, have breakfast, and board one of the earliest buses to Machu Picchu. Arriving early has two major advantages:

  1. Serene Experience: Early morning at Machu Picchu is peaceful, providing a great opportunity to capture photos and enjoy the sunrise over the Inca city.
  2. Comprehensive Tour: Our guide will take you on a detailed tour of Machu Picchu, covering its history, famous temples, and altars. You’ll visit the Sacred Rock Hut for a breathtaking panoramic view of the entire site. After the guided tour, you’ll have free time to explore on your own or hike up Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu Mountain (note that prior arrangements are required for these hikes).

Return Trip to Cusco

Your guide will suggest meeting in Aguas Calientes for a final optional lunch at a local restaurant, which is not included in the package. During lunch, your guide will distribute train tickets. If you decide to skip lunch, ensure you collect your tickets before leaving Machu Picchu. Arrive at the train platform at least 30 minutes before departure.
