Additionally, we’ll visit Willkarakay, a military outpost situated above Patallacta.

The morning portion of the trek is physically demanding, especially for those not acclimated to high altitudes, but it offers some of the most breathtaking scenery. For the first leg of the hike to Machu Picchu, we will trek for approximately 1.5 hours through densely vegetated terrain until we reach the Three Stones campsite, where we’ll pause for a short break.

As we continue our ascent, the landscape will transition as we enter the inter-Andean forest filled with Unca trees. Two hours later, we’ll arrive at Llulluchapampa, another campsite, where we’ll take an extended break with snacks and hot beverages.

From Llulluchapampa, we embark on the final push to the Warmihuañusca Pass, the trek’s highest point. This offers a fantastic opportunity to enjoy panoramic views of the valleys below. Another 45-minute climb will lead us to the second-highest pass on the Inca Trail trek, also named Runkurakay. After this, we’ll descend to the stunning archaeological site of Sayacmarca, strategically located and rich in history.

After exploring Sayacmarca in detail, we’ll continue our trek along a beautifully paved path to our lunch spot at Chaquicocha. From Chaquicocha onwards to Phuyupatamarca, we’ll journey through the high Andean cloud forest, a breathtaking showcase of nature’s beauty.

Weather permitting, this will be the best time to experience the beauty of Machu Picchu.

Following this, a 45-minute descent will bring us to the upper area of Machu Picchu, a natural viewpoint perfect for the iconic classic photo and an opportunity for a group picture.
